About the job
As a Technical Product Owner, you will work in the Technical Hub within the Claims Value Stream. You’ll support multiple squads, focusing on translating Technical & Business Requirements into consumable user stories, and prioritizing and refining the backlog.
You will be a key driving force behind product delivery; your presence must be visible, vocal, and objective. You will have a passion for being proactive, creative and solution driven whilst also happy to challenge and make suggestions for improvement.
You will support the delivery life cycle, offering support and guidance where necessary, ensuring appropriate technical detail is documented and communicated so the squads have the best opportunity to deliver work that is high-quality and on-time.
You’ll work closely with the Squads, as well as interacting with Business, IT & Cyber Security Stakeholders. The aim of this role to ensure the deliverables have a positive impact on Admiral’s Strategic Objectives and Key Results.
This is a hybrid role, combining remote working with both scheduled and ad-hoc days in the office.
Main Duties
- Bridge the gap between the business and technology domains by working with development teams to uncover problems and help identify solutions
- Proactive backlog management and prioritisation, with a focus on understanding and delivering value
- Identifying technical requirements as part of analysis, elaboration and refinement (including error handling and non-functional requirements)
- Documentation and communication analysis you have carried out to support technical design decisions.
- Effective stakeholder management and identification
- Helping ensure the smooth flow of features through discovery, definition, development, and delivery
- Working closely with Subject Matter Experts, the IT development team and other tribes to ensure timely and accurate delivery of new functionality.
- Liaising with other Value Steams, Shared Services and Component Teams to identify dependencies early and ensure clear visibility.
- Work with the team to enable fast feedback on delivered work from customers, and the department
- Identify key risks and escalate where appropriate
Responsibilities
- For focusing on complex technical changes, specialising in specific system areas relevant to the Value Stream.
- For building a prioritised backlog based on value
- For working closely with Architecture to understand future Roadmap.
- For contributing towards design efficiencies and technical advances.
- For Data Modelling on relevant changes
- For working with the Principal Engineer to understand & discuss new and existing technical requirements and exploring how the Technical Hub can assist.
- For initial analysis of change requests of varying sizes and complexity, providing recommendations for progression of change such as training, process and system changes.
- For investigating, understanding and refining Technical Requirements
- For assisting and agreeing solutions with squads & Architecture teams, including review of High-level design documents
- For supporting sign-off of overall design and acceptance criteria by all relevant IT Stakeholders.
- For acting as a focal point and provide support and assistance to all relevant parties throughout the lifecycle of the change.
- Assisting with elaboration and identify / breakdown stories to complete Epics in conjunction with the squad.
- Assist with technical solution ensuring early identification of issues.
This is not a full definition of the role but covers the main aspects and drivers for success.
Knowledge and Experience Required
Desirable:
- Good understanding of the Guidewire suite, ideally with additional focus on Guidewire Claim Center
- Experience of working in a large IT Department
- Experience working in the UK Financial Sector
- Understanding of system testing and software quality assurance best practises.
- Strong aptitude for business & IT process modelling.
- A working knowledge of AGILE practices.
- ISEB qualifications or equivalent are advantageous but not essential.
- Strong Cyber/Information security awareness.

Professional Training Requirements
SAFe® 5 Agilist certification or equivalent (Multiple Agile certifications can be used but most widely used is SAFe, CSM, PSM)
