Introducing the next blog in our I Belong series where we give you a peek into what working at Admiral is like, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group and giving insight into our friendly, diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Meet Beth...
Hello, I’m Beth, I joined Admiral in 2017 as a Claims Handler and formed part of the first weekend team in the Swansea office. When I originally started, I had the mindset that this was just a temporary job while I completed my A-levels, however, four years down the line I’ve completed my A-Levels, a degree in psychology and have progressed while doing so.
I’m now a Senior for one of the weekend teams and form part of the weekend management group. I get to work alongside the managers and seniors that helped me get to where I am today as well as my colleagues that I first started my career with, so it’s really rewarding. I’m still involved in the customer facing side of the role and get the pleasure of making a positive impact on our customers when they’re going through a difficult or challenging time.
So all in all, I get a lot of diversity and variety in my role, which I love.
Flexibility, glowing reviews and stability
I chose Admiral due to its reputation of being both a good employer and insurer to its customers, it’s quite rare to find a large company that has glowing reviews across both areas, so this was the initial draw. However, once I found out more about the role, the flexibility on offer confirmed my decision. Admiral were able to provide me with flexibility during my studies while also giving me stability financially and shift wise, which most student jobs don’t.
The work/fun balance is spot on
I enjoy working at Admiral due to its uniqueness, it’s harder to see from an outside perspective however I’ve never come across a company quite like it. The work/fun balance is spot on and it’s easy to forget sometimes that you’re in work, as there is so much more going on than just the job. We always have a commitment to our customers and that’s at the forefront of everything we do during our day-to-day role, however we also have the luxury of working in close knit teams that allow a different type of support framework and make the job and environment fun, supportive and varied.
Furthermore, there are also opportunities to utilise your skills and to be involved in projects that link to your passions, allowing for natural development and progression both as an individual and within the company.
Working in Claims
My favourite aspect of working in Claims is the fast paced and challenging environment. You’re often the first point of contact for the customer following an accident, meaning the customers we speak to are often understandably upset and distressed. It’s such a rewarding feeling to know you’ve made a difference to that person in their time of need, and I love the fact we can often turn something negative into a positive.
Another aspect of my role that I love is the people element. I enjoy being part of the colleague and wellbeing initiatives, allowing me to utilise my degree and explore my passions further.
