"Guidewire Engineer (Data Pipelines Squad)
The DnA (Data and Analytics) tribe is responsible for creating and maintaining a cloud-based Data and Analytics platform for Admiral Group. The tribe works across a significant number of Admiral’s strategic initiatives including Pricing, Fraud, Customer Contact and Digital.
The tribe is made up of five engineering squads with a view of growing to nine squads over the coming months. The tribe covers a wide range of disciplines including data warehousing, web development, API development and machine learning.
The DnA tribe started with a modest scope, but the solutions built have now formed the backbone of our data strategy. We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Guidewire Engineer to support our Data Pipelines Squad and be responsible for managing changes to our GX model from Policy Centre that we send to GCP.
Main Duties
- Engage with the wider business and the development team to understand the changes required.
- Actively making changes to the Policy Center Modules and our bespoke GX model.
- Liaising with Guidewire developers from other teams to review code changes, and get our changes merged in to the Guidewire releases.
- Actively support our Performance Teams and wider teams with understanding the changes we are making for DnA in the Guidewire releases.
- Development of technical solutions with adherence to relevant technologies and coding standards
- Competently use code repository and promotion tools
- Identify opportunities for knowledge transfer and provide, where appropriate
- Provide high quality changes in a timely manner and that meet the business requirements.
- Remain responsible for written software in live, including initial post deployment support

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Passed Guidewire Policy Center Configuration Exam
- GuideWire tool: Batch/Work queue, messaging queues, webServices, PCF, Workflows, Data Model
- Excellent hands on experience using Java/GOSU.
- Experience using build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Experience of using version control such as GIT.
- Experience supporting incremental releases, feeding in to release plans and assisting performance testing teams.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- An understanding of Agile practices and Agile ways of working
- Experience using Agile working tools (i.e. Jira, or Azure DevOps, or similar)
- Passed Guidewire Billing Center Configuration Exam
- Passed Guidewire Policy Center Integration Exam
- Experience of regular iterative releases and automated scanning tools within a CICD pipeline.
About you
The successful candidate will:
- Be enthusiastic about creating great solutions and enabling real time data streaming to the cloud.
- Have a keen interest in keeping up to date with improvements in technology both on premise and on the cloud.
- Be an excellent communicator at all levels, with experience working closely with a wide range of people including engineering teams, development teams and non-technical audiences.
- Be a creative and pragmatic problem solver, always looking for solutions to business and technology problems
- Have the ability to operate on a detailed level but also see the bigger picture and understand what other teams changes mean for DnA.
- Be experienced in iterative deployments and regular releases. Also, to understand secure coding principles and work alongside our Information Security teams to ensure security of the platform.
