Senior Underwriter

A vacancy has arisen within Admiral Financial Services for a Senior Underwriter. The role involves taking a lead in the day to day running of the team whilst we transition to a new way of working. This includes fraud, credit and affordability decisioning, as well as customer contact processes. They will also help in developing the team through regular QA, training and actioning any relevant feedback. The Senior Underwriter will play a vital role in creating a positive and productive working environment, whilst meeting department objectives.

The successful candidate will be able to quickly fit into a fast-moving, innovative and high-profile environment, and will be required to hit the ground running; at least two years’ prior experience in an underwriting role is therefore a prerequisite. Candidates will be given responsibility to set direction and lead the way, whilst very much retaining a hands-on approach.

Main Duties:

• Ensuring agreed underwriting processes are being carried out to a high standard in a timely manner
• Ensuring team members have clear remits and are working effectively on a daily basis
• Prioritising workloads in order to meet SLAs and deliver on team objectives
• Having regular contact with the team manager and head of department to update on the team’s activities and performance
• Carry out regular QA of the teams’ output and identify training needs
• Understanding changes to policy or process and training these out to the team
• Being an SME for the team and providing guidance and support to team members
• Assist with the implementation of new systems/processes such as Open Banking

Required skills and experience:

• At least two years’ underwriting experience in a lending business is essential
• Contribute positively to the Admiral culture
• Have the confidence to challenge existing work practices to ensure we are continuously improving as a team
• Able to work on their own initiative with excellent time management and organisation skills
• Flexible and adaptable approach to work as process/systems evolve
• Positive outlook and able to demonstrate a positive influence on those around you
• A strong focus on quality, receptive to feedback and effective when giving feedback to others
• Be an effective communicator with all levels of staff, verbal and written

Experience with the following would be advantageous:

• Unsecured personal loans or Motor Finance
• CIFAS/SIRA loadings and assessments
• Open Banking/PSD2
