"Graduate Data Scientist
We’re looking for Graduate Data Scientist’s to join our International Pricing/Analytics department! Data and technology take centre stage in delivering our market-leading products. This is an excellent opportunity for numerically minded graduates with good communication skills to join one of our departments. The departments build and deploy machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions for business areas.
You will be given on-the-job training to develop a deep knowledge of modern data science techniques and a broad understanding of the business world. After an initial fully supported training period, you will have a chance to use cutting-edge techniques to solve real-life problems. You will use these skills to help solve some of the most critical questions facing our global organisation.
Admiral is a market leader in the insurance industry, voted No. 1 in the 2019 Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For list. You will work in a responsive, collaborative environment alongside other talented Data Scientists, where no one will ever say “no” to a good idea.
International Pricing and Analytics
Our International Pricing and Analytics team is based in Cardiff and is responsible for providing support and guidance to our businesses worldwide. Graduates will work together with our colleagues and teams overseas, running pricing models and using statistical tools to understand and analyse the numbers and make proposals to improve the pricing structure in our international operations. Our overseas operations have ambitious growth plans and sharing best practices, innovation, and using knowledge and experience in one country to improve our risk selection and processes in other countries plays a key role to be successful.
Once it is safe, you may also have opportunities to travel to our offices in Paris, Rome, and Seville for work assignments.
About You
We are looking for inquisitive graduates with a desire to make an impact using innovative analytic methods. You must have a deep interest in machine learning or statistics and be ready to grow your skills as the field progresses. You should be comfortable in a culture where decision making is evidence-based and reliant on rigorous analysis.
Whilst we will support you every step of the way, you should be motivated and able to work without supervision. You will need to cooperate effectively with others and deliver on agreed timelines in a dynamic environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to solve key issues using a range of machine learning techniques
- Be up to date with trends in data science, learning and sharing new skills and methods
- Communicate results to key decision-makers, including division Heads and regional CEOs
- Development, evaluation, and implementation of advanced statistical and machine learning models
- Creation of meaningful datasets for modelling and evaluation from a vast quantity of data in multiple formats
- International Pricing and Analytics - Educate other divisions and countries on best practices for responsible data science
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a STEM field
- An interest in using data to understand the world around you, and the ability to communicate that understanding to a non-technical audience
- Experience using supervised machine learning techniques (such as generalised linear models, random forests, or gradient boosted ensembles) is highly preferred
- Experience using standard data science tools such as R, Python, or SQL is preferred
- Exceptional numerical ability and a desire to solve problems using innovative and creative techniques
- International Pricing and Analytics - French, Italian, or Spanish language skills are valuable but not essential
Interview process
- CV screening
- Numerical test: 25 questions with an inbuilt timing function to complete it in 25 minutes. All candidates applying for an analytical role will be invited to complete this test. Please note: The score you get will be used for any other roles you apply to with us that require the test as part of the selection process, and you can only complete this test once.
