Job Purpose

As an End User Computing Engineer, the role holder will ensure our EUC services meet the high standards required for our globally distributed workforce. You harness your in-depth knowledge of the environment, technology and industry trends to ensure the service meets the needs of our end users and that our workplace continues to evolve and improve.

Our endpoint estate consists of a large (predominately Dell) laptop estate with a number of virtual devices (WVD/pVDI/VDI) too. A range of systems which manage/provision the endpoints, protect our users from emerging threats and provide a consistent desktop/user experience across a range of personas: Frontline operatives, Backoffice service staff, Executives, Contractors, Remote workers etc.

Technology and services include: Endpoint Management tooling (Ivanti, SCCM, Workspace One), Microsoft 365 (Intune, Autopilot, Modern Management), Group Policy Management, AppLocker, Security Hardening (CIS etc), Roaming Profiles, Citrix XenDesktop (Gold Image and Wyse device management) and OS deployments.

The Team

The role holder will work within the Workplace Operations team which forms part of the Workplace Services function, itself within the Modern Workplace Tribe. The team provides our workplace with a robust range of end user computing services that enable our users to carry out their role effectively and securely with modern workplace technology. Primarily, the team ensure that OS and applications are maintained to most secure levels and work closely with other teams within the tribe in order to deliver a consistent, risk averse and high quality experience to the customer.

Main Duties

At all stages, working closely with and under the guidance of the EUC SME/Design Authority (D&E):

  • Manage and administer the endpoint management systems for Windows, Apple and Wyse devices.
  • Ensure OS upgrades, patches and feature releases are tested and deployed in a staged deployment, ensuring stability and consistency.
  • Control the hardware standards for procurement: Laptops, desktop, developer machines, mobiles etc.
  • Manage and optimise mobile device management for android and iOS via VMware Workspace One.
  • Manage mobile device security – MAM Policies, CIS Benchmarks, remote wipes, BYOD, asset tracking.
  • AppLocker Management – Control the whitelisting catalogue for applications and DLLs against roles.
  • Ensure CIS benchmarks are regularly revised and applied to OS (Windows/MacOS) and applications.
  • Conduct user adoption activities to increase use of MS Teams, O365 features, remote working etc 
  • Manage the meeting room experience and hardware standards to support Zoom/Teams conferencing
  • Work closely with third party vendors on the latest feature releases, service problems and renewals.
  • Proactive identification and resolution of performance anomalies, system defects and stability issues.
  • Produce and maintain technical processes, documentation and knowledge base articles for systems.
  • Provide peer support and knowledge transfer to colleagues within other teams and functions in IT.
  • Work with our InfoSec teams to ensure systems remain safe and secure from emerging threats.
  • Validate projects during transition to BAU, ensuring appropriate management and support is in place.
  • Work with the Change Management team on proposed changes, assessing and minimising risk and any potential impact to services.
  • Liaising with other departments within the business to ensure IT needs are met to their expectation.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience within an IT support or managed services function.
  • Highly technical with hands on experience with troubleshooting issues and resolving problems.
  • Experience with AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Roaming Profiles, File Shares, DFS, AppLocker etc.
  • O365 or Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting (OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams etc)
  • Experience with VDI or RDS: Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp or Horizon, RDS, Profile Management etc.
  • Operating systems: Windows Server 2008 R2 – 2016/19, Windows 10, Linux Servers and appliances

Desirable:

  • M365 - Teams, SharePoint, Azure AD, Autopilot, Dynamics, Intune, OneDrive, Azure File Sync etc.
  • Exposure to monitoring and alerting systems like What’s Up? Gold, PagerDuty, PRTG, Manage Engine.
  • Experience with ITSM systems like Ivanti, ServiceNow or BMC Remedy
  • A good understanding of complex networking technologies and security services.
  • Security experience with Intune, AIP, ATP, DLP, MFA, EMS and/or CIS Benchmarking requirements.
  • IT certifications are highly desirable, examples: Microsoft 365 Certified Associate, MCSA, MCSE etc
