Senior Cloud Engineer

It is a hugely exciting time to join the Data and Analytics Tribe in Admiral. Having built and launched a Data Platform in Google Cloud Platform for Admiral, we continue to expand our Data and Analytics capabilities across the organisation, with initiatives Pricing, Fraud, Telematics, Customer Contact, Claims and Digital, to name a few.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to contribute to the development of a variety solutions within one of our multidisciplinary Squads.

About You

As a Senior Cloud Engineer in the Data and Analytics you will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based infrastructure, developing standards and best practices for cloud engineering, and coaching and mentoring other members of the Tribe.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive person who can think creatively to solve problems, and meet technical requirements. You must have a keen interest in cloud engineering and be ready to research and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required, and share your knowledge and experience.

We work within the Agile/Scrum framework, and so are looking for someone who can work both on their own and as part of a team within a fast-paced and changing environment. This requires someone who can deliver to agreed timelines, communicate effectively, and think innovatively.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the refinement of technical requirements
• Designing and implementing secure, scalable, and innovative solutions to meet requirements
• Supporting and maintaining existing solutions and identifying/remediating technical debt
• Defining our Standards and Best Practices for Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices
• Defining and applying Security Best Practice to our solutions
• Creating and updating applicable technical documentation
• Actively contribute to Scrum ceremonies such as Refinement, Sprint Planning and Retrospective
• Contributing to improvements of our technical excellence and ways of working within Squad, Chapter and Guild forums
• Coaching and mentoring other Engineers in the Tribe

Technical Skills and Experience

Essential:

• The essential skills and experience of a Senior Cloud Engineer in the Data and Analytics Tribe include:
• Extensive working knowledge of Cloud technologies such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git
• Developing and deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform/Terragrunt
• In depth knowledge of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins/GitLab/Azure DevOps
• Deep understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices
• Experience of Coaching and Mentoring

Desirable:

• The desirable skills and experience of a Senior Cloud Engineer in the Data and Analytics Tribe include:
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining solutions in GCP
• Experience of configuring and maintaining GCP managed services such as Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud SQL, Cloud Composer, Artifact Registry, Data Catalog and Vertex AI
• Experience with Compute, Containerization and Container Orchestration technologies such as Google Compute Engine, Docker and Google Kubernetes Engine
• Experience of applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices 
• Experience configuring and managing GCP Security related services such as Cloud Identity, Cloud IAM, VPC Service Controls, Identity-Aware Proxy, Cloud Data Loss Prevention, and Cloud Security Command Centre
• Programming/scripting experience (e.g., Java or Python)
• Extensive experience working with and administering Linux environments.

Interview Process

• There will be a 2-stage process, the first is a Technical Assessment and the Second an interview via MS Teams.
• Interviews will take place throughout February and March.

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.
