The Scrum Master has overall accountability for the success of the Tribe, acting both as a servant leader and coach for the Tribe. The main responsibilities of the Scrum Master are removing blockers, ensuring progress can be made by team members by removing issues outside of their control, dealing with any organisational impediments, and protecting the Tribe from unnecessary distraction. The Scrum Master is responsible for the day-to-day agile management activities such as running the Scrum process. The Scrum Master, as a servant leader, has responsibility for upskilling the Tribe in agile ways of working that enable the Tribe to self-organise, manage, and deliver value using agile methodology.
 

Accountabilities

  • Accountable for maximising Tribe’s ability to deliver Sprint goals and contribute to Tribe OKRs
  • Accountable for Tribe level ceremonies integrity, consistency and effectiveness driving Tribe value
  • Accountable to both the Tribe as a whole and each individual Tribe member performing as a servant leader
  • Accountable for supporting the Tribe to live the following values: productivity, quality, transparency, and openness over internal politics in everything it does
  • Accountable for the overall quality and consistency of Jira issues, epics and sprint board maintenance
     

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring Tribe level events like Daily Huddles, Sprint Planning, Refinement, Sprint Retrospectives, Dependency etc are conducted.
  • Responsible for the effective and consistent operational performance for the scrum process as the Scrum Master
  • Responsible for identifying, tracking, removing and escalating both blockers and impediments at Tribe level to maintain both pace and flow of value
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to Guardrails and Tribe level activities
  • Responsible for owning and managing risks, issues and dependencies at Tribe level
  • Responsible for managing and resolving intra-department dependencies by working with other Team managers and Service Owners
  • Responsible for both timely and effective tracking and reporting on Tribe’s progress against Sprint goals to Tribe Leadership
     

Key interactions

  • Coaches Tribe team members in Agile practices and mindsets
  • Support Product Owner with Tribe backlog management
  • Supports Tribe leadership in optimising value flow for the Tribe
  • Works with the Team Managers to assist in the development of capability.
     

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Knowledge and experience of Agile techniques
  • Knowledge and experience of using Jira (Sprint/Kanban) boards including the production of effective and timely Tribe performance monitoring reporting
  • Project management understanding with the ability to apply principles, tools and techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects to ensure successful completion
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of tools such as: Jira, Confluence etc.
  • Desirable but not essential: Awareness/knowledge and experience operating within MS365 Technologies, EUC services, Enterprise level domain services, IAM/PAM technologies, Citrix.

  • Must encourage diversity of views, promote health conflict, be able to facilitate discussion, focus on solving through a variety of approaches (Conflict resolution)
  • Must be able to lead a team to self-organisation
  • Understand the fundamentals of design and engineering processes and procedures
  • Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by an engineering team
  • Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics to increase velocity.
  • Be able to understand work that should has been prioritised and the importance to delivering to the agreed plan (Drives Results)
  • Must have the ability to react quickly in challenging and complex circumstances (Decision Making)
