"We're looking for a Scrum Master to join our team at Veygo!
About Veygo
Veygo was founded 6 years ago as part of a pioneering incubation venture ‘Admiral Pioneer’ - created to seed and launch exciting scale ups to disrupt existing marketplaces.
Veygo has so far seen an impressive 50% YoY growth. We currently provide our customers with temporary and learner car insurance - products designed to make life easier for those wanting to share cars, insure their own car for a short amount of time, or for people learning to drive.
What makes Veygo different?
- We’re building flexible policies for learner drivers or people looking to share cars once they've passed their test.
- Veygo provides comprehensive cover to those customers, meaning that the car owner’s insurance policy and no claims bonus is safe if the person borrowing the car has an accident.
- All Veygo’s insurance is available by the hour, day, week or month or on subscription and customers can get a quote in minutes.
- All backed by Admiral, voted Best UK Car Insurance Provider six years in a row by The Personal Finance Awards.
Whilst our mission today is to put people in control of their own journey our ambition is to create a youth lifestyle brand that take us beyond car insurance. Disruption is in our DNA and we’re always relentlessly looking for collaborative self-starters and innovators with the desire to challenge how we do things today; to push the boundaries and drive us through our onward growth journey. Veygo’s culture is vibrant, open, creative, and disruptive.
About the Role
All our teams are truly cross-functional. We have no time for knowledge silos and we’re set-up in cross functional teams to deliver solutions to our customer problems. A typical day is problem solving - creating infrastructure, building backend APIs, building a beautiful user journey, or improving our delivery pipeline.
You’ll sit in the squads, helping to deliver value, and improve our agile ways of working. You’ll play a part in setting the teams up for the success, acting both as a servant leader and coach. Empowering the squads and giving them tools to ensure they get the best from agile ceremonies and artefacts, as well as removing impediments and sheltering the team from outside interference. Also, the Scrum Master has responsibility for upskilling the Squad in Agile ways of working that enable the team to self-organise, manage, and deliver value for our customers and company.
You will not be alone; we have other Scrum Masters in Veygo, Admiral Pioneer and the wide Admiral Group who you can reach out to, and you will play a role in promoting a community of Agile advocates.
Main Duties
- Be accountable for maximising the Squads/teams' ability to deliver value, hit Sprint goals, and contribute to strategic objectives.
- Identify, track, remove, and escalate blockers/impediments at Squad level to maintain flow of value, ensuring Squads/teams’ progress, calling in for support from management and stakeholders where required.
- Use visual management tools to report on goals.
- Own and manage risks, issues, and dependencies at Squad level.
- Manage and resolve Squad-to-Squad dependencies working with other Scrum Masters and Product Mangers.
- Facilitate Squad level ceremonies like Daily Huddles/Stand-ups/Retrospectives.
- Work with Engineering Leads to ensure Squads/team’s capacity, utilisation, and velocity.
- Actively engage with other Scrum Masters, Engineering Team Leads and Product Managers in Veygo to discuss resourcing and utilisation strategies, and shelter the team from outside interference.
- Build a close relationship with all the Squad, including the Product Manager and Engineering Lead to support each other.
- Specifically support the Product Manager/Engineering Lead by helping with techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management and refinement.
- Coach and drive continuous improvement of Veygo’s Agile methodologies to ensure teams deliver high quality products as efficiently as possible.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, feedback, continuous improvement, and support.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and coach stakeholders in Veygo’s methodologies.
- Provide and share feedback to stakeholders, teams, and functions to drive continuous improvement.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proven work experience in an Agile organisation and/or certification as a Scrum Master, with expertise and deep knowledge of Agile practices and ways of working – and relevant qualifications if available.
- Excellent knowledge of the Scrum Framework.
- Strong skills and experience with using Agile working tools (i.e. Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps, or similar).
- Good understanding of typical Agile roles and the required skills.
- Knowledgeable in Agile development practices such as Scrum, Lean, Kanban.
- Strong interpersonal skills that can support colleagues and be comfortable with robust challenge from stakeholders.
- Experience in facilitating discussion, stakeholder management, decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to lead and/or facilitate large meetings, training sessions and/or workshops.
- Ability to own initiatives that include engaging with stakeholders and the wider business.
Desirable
- Coaching, group leadership and team building experience/skills (and/or qualifications).
- Experience/understanding of Cloud-based technology solutions and delivery, including concepts like containerization, API management gateways.
- Experience using Jira & Confluence specifically.
Please note: this is a hybrid role based in our Cardiff office once-twice a week.
