The role of the Release Engineer is to work with the IT Development and Support teams in order to deploy changes across the IT estate within a busy IT department. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and develop the release processes across a variety of technologies (mainly Azure and Java).  As well as working to deploy various releases to test and live environments using Azure Pipelines, this role will be heavily involved with working to implement DevOps principles and ways of working within the immediate team and wider IT Department. 

Main Duties 

  • Responsible for deploying multiple code packages into development, test and live environments. 
  • Planning and managing deployments into the live environment using documented implantation plans, including the rollback process. 
  • Design, implementation and maintenance of the deployment tools and processes to improve the operational efficiency and accuracy of our software releases. 
  • Improving already established processes for deployment to multiple environments including live and implementing automation where appropriate. 
  • Investigation into environment related issues to help support the testing and development teams. 
  • Provide support to other team members of Release Management with their roles. 
  • Performing code reviews for the development of new Release Management jobs where appropriate. 
  • Work with various stakeholders to ensure that processes are followed by all areas.
  • Work with the Transition team to ensure that all processes adhere to the standards set out within the Change Management process.

 Experience and Qualifications Required 

Essential: 

  • Have understanding in configuration management systems as well as source control tools such as GIT, etc. 
  • Understands continuous delivery / integration processes with hands on experience of releasing Java based applications and good working knowledge of Azure Pipelines, Jenkins, Nexus, RunDeck, Ant, and GIT.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as a service. 
  • An analytical approach to problem solving. 
  • Good communication and listening skills. 
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • A willingness to expand on current knowledge.

Desirable: 

  • Previous experience of working in an Agile development environment. 
  • Experience of working with various Guidewire systems.
  • Good knowledge of YAML and LogAnalytics processes. 
  • Shows knowledge of SOA related concepts and technologies e.g. SOAP, WSDL, XML and JSON. 

Interviews:

We will typically aim to interview a week after receiving applications, however these will likely take place in early January.
