About the job
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Privacy Specialist to lead and develop Admiral Law’s Privacy team, providing Privacy & Information Security support to Admiral Law.
About Admiral Law
Admiral Law is a growing business; we are a legal practice run by a team of experts who specialise in personal injury claims. The customer is always at the heart of everything we do, and we aim to be exceptional in the service we deliver.
Admiral Law operates as a standalone entity within Admiral Group and operates as a team with appropriate specialists but with the added support and benefits of being part of the wider business.
We’re looking for people who are keen to learn, excited about getting stuck in and are ready for a challenge to help us to achieve our aim of creating an excellent service for our customers.
The Role
You will act as the escalation point for the Privacy team, who is dedicated to ensuring the privacy and protection of Admiral Law’s data. A strong understanding of privacy law, both in theory and in practice, as well as information security, associated regulations and best practices, will be required, as will the ability to manage and mentor a team effectively, and the desire to engage with and influence the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a small team of privacy professionals, providing technical and pastoral guidance, support, monitoring, and mentorship to ensure they perform their roles effectively.
- Conduct and review privacy risk assessments and assurance audits and provide risk-based advice on the same.
- Lead the team in responding to privacy incidents and data breaches, including investigation, documentation, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Oversee information rights, including data subject access requests (DSARs), and other privacy inquiries and ensure these are addressed in a timely manner.
- Develop and improve processes in alignment with the ISO27001 standard to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.
- Assess how the Privacy function is performing against key performance indicators, and proactively improve performance and enhance knowledge where applicable.
- Work closely with other departments across the business to ensure privacy considerations are embedded.
- Assist with the design and delivery of privacy training programs to ensure our staff understand their role in protecting our data.
- Help to ensure the organisation complies with relevant privacy laws and regulations, including the UK GDPR, PECR, and other applicable data protection regulations.
Skills and Experience
- Experience in advising on privacy and data protection, including proficiency in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
- Understanding of data rights including Subject Access Request management.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current and emerging UK privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, PECR, and others, and the ability to apply this in a practical manner.
- Proven track record of managing and/or investigating privacy incidents and data breaches.
- Prior experience in a management role with excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
- High ethical standards and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Familiarity with Information Security principles and an understanding of data security principles and practices.
Desirable Skills
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, CIS F).
- Knowledge and experience with ISO 27001, the international standard for information security management systems.
