Head of Design

We're looking for a Head of Product Design to join our team at Veygo!

Veygo was founded 6 years ago as part of a pioneering incubation venture ‘Admiral Pioneer’ - created to seed and launch exciting scale ups to disrupt existing marketplaces.  

Veygo has so far seen an impressive 50% YoY growth. We currently provide our customers with temporary and learner car insurance - products designed to make life easier for those wanting to share cars, insure their own car for a short amount of time, or for people learning to drive. 

What makes Veygo different?

We’re building flexible policies for learner drivers or people looking to share cars once they've passed their test.   

Veygo provides comprehensive cover to those customers, meaning that the car owner’s insurance policy and no claims bonus is safe if the person borrowing the car has an accident. 

All Veygo’s insurance is available by the hour, day, week or month and customers can get a quote in minutes.

The team

At Veygo, we value highly-driven, lateral thinking and highly skilled Product Designers who deliver impact quickly. The design team is embedded into several mission critical business and customer problems, working alongside Product Managers, Engineers, Marketing, Operations, Pricing, Underwriting and Compliance. Working in a collaborative way to discover, define and deliver value to our customers and the business. Cross-collaboration across teams is essential to ensure the customer experience is seamless.

The role

We are looking for a seasoned design and people leader with a tenacity for solving customer problems and a passion for nurturing design talent to join the team at Veygo. This person will have a proven track-record of galvanising designers to create a highly impactful and influential design team.

As Head of Design, you will:

• Lead and Develop the Design Team
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of Product Designers.
• Inspire and support the team with actionable career development plans.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
• Champion Design Excellence
• Advocate for design thinking and its value across Veygo.
• Foster a customer-centric approach throughout Veygo.
• Highlight the team's capabilities and contributions to Veygo's strategic goals.
• Define Strategy and deliver impact to customers
• Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, and senior stakeholders to define strategic goals and objectives
• Identify and help to prioritise roadmap opportunities, driving the biggest impact for Veygo and our customers
• De-risk initiatives by leveraging research and collaboration to deeply understand problems and deliver valuable solutions.
• Define success metrics and expected outcomes for all initiatives.
• Conceptualise prototypes and artifacts that present a compelling product vision and roadmap for delivering incremental member value.
• Drive strategic initiatives to deliver tested, validated outcomes while consistently bringing value to customers.
• Align delivery with vision by partnering with cross-functional teams.
• Continuously monitor customer impact and operational success, pivoting as needed to achieve outcomes.

What we are looking for

• Extensive experience in UX/Product Design, ideally in D2C scale-ups or startups.
• Proven strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to design and product innovation.
• Passionate about coaching teams to success through leadership, mentorship, and showcasing best practices.
• Skilled at identifying opportunities for improvement and driving impactful change.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity, setting clear milestones, and adapting plans as needed.
• Exceptional communicator and storyteller, tailoring messages effectively for all audiences, including senior leadership.
• Strong focus on outcomes, delivering tangible impact for users and the business.
• Deep expertise in crafting exceptional end-to-end user experiences and obsessing over UX details.
• Extensive experience with user testing, research, and iterative product discovery.
• Adept at thriving in fast-paced environments with iterative delivery.
• Experience leading design squads or driving world-class product design efforts.
• Proficient in design methodologies (e.g., Design Thinking) and tools like Figma.
• Data-driven, with hands-on experience using tools like Amplitude, GA, or Optimizely.
• AI experience - highly desirable. 

Please note: this is a hybrid role based in our Cardiff office once a week.
