Engineering Manager

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team at Admiral Business!

Please note: This is a hybrid role, with a requirement to work on site in Cardiff 2 days per week. 

Main Responsibilities

• Develop Frontend Applications using Next.js and React
• Provide technical leadership in building and optimising complex microservices and serverless systems leveraging AWS and GCP cloud services.
• Optimising database performance, and ensuring data integrity across different database types
• Embed Security throughout the SDLC emphasising a security-by-design approach.
• Own and develop code/development standards
• Be both highly technical and an effective people manager
• Facilitate effective Agile ceremonies (retrospectives, sprint planning, stand-ups) to foster collaboration, drive team performance, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality code
• Collaborate with various functions, drive engineering initiatives and have an impact at an organisational level 
• Participate and Lead on technical design 
• Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals 

Required Skills and Experience

• Previous experience working within a People Management role
• Strong communication skills
• Strong Organisation and Time management skills
• Leading and managing the technical development of cloud-based applications.
• Database selection, implementation, Optimisation and maintenance. 
• Extensive software engineering work experience, including hands-on technical management building holistic web-based software solution, API design, and interactions between servers and clients 
• Considerable experience developing backend services
• Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management 

Extensive commercial experience in the following areas:

• Development using JavaScript libraries and frameworks (Next.js and React preferred)
• Development of serverless applications (Node.js preferred)
• Development of REST and/or GraphQL API's

Desirable Experience

• Experience working in the Insurance sector or other highly regulated sectors
• Experience with Sanity.io
