About the Role
We are looking for either an Underwriting Lead or an experienced Underwriter looking to progress into a leadership role, who is passionate for providing excellent service to customers and brokers. You will lead the newly formed 1st line commercial underwriting team to provide 1st class broker partner engagement and technical underwriting support. The successful candidate will help develop and drive the success of the team, enabling our growth strategy by providing fast and efficient support to both internal teams and external partners. You will be challenged to find new and improved ways of providing fast and efficient service though digital and automation opportunities.
Key Responsibilities

- Customer Centric: Ensure good customer outcomes are at the heart of every decision
- Problem solving: Take ownership of customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly
- Statistical Analysis: Analyse and act on underwriting data to make good decisions
- Compliance Oversight: Compliance isn't just a box to tick; it's a fundamental aspect of our operations. You work closely with the Governance Team to ensure that our underwriting practices are compliant with internal processes and regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Test and develop better ways of servicing our customers
- Audit accountability: Ensure full audit of internal and external partners
Skills and Experience
- Experience: Proven experience in underwriting, preferably with a solid understanding of risk assessment and insurance principles
- Relationship management: Previous experience in managing relationships effectively, challenging the ‘norm’ and testing new ways of working together.
- Get your hands dirty: Proactive and self-motivated with a ‘hands on’ approach
- Qualifications: Relevant professional qualifications e.g. Cert CII, diploma in Insurance
- Technology: using various PAS or underwriting technology
- Knowledge:Solid understanding of commercial insurance types would be advantageous
Hybrid Working
The successful candidate will be expected to work from both our Swansea and Cardiff offices 1 - 3 days per week.
