What do you do in Admiral and how long have you been working here?
I am a Project Manager Lead, which means I am a Project Manager and a Team Manager within the IT PM Team. I am currently working on a new industry wide FCA legislation change around Pricing Practices, which looks at the fair value we offer customers. It’s an interesting project and involves working with different areas of the business. I have been working at Admiral for a year and a half and since joining as a Project Manager, I have been promoted to Team Manager within the team.
How did you get into your role? What is your background?
I have been a Project Manager for 6 years. I now work within IT but have previously been a PM within Operations and HR departments. That’s one of the great things about being a PM, you can carry the skills across lots of different areas of the business and keep learning and growing. I was first exposed to Project Management when I worked as a Buying Assistant. The PM brought all elements of the buying cycle together and did such a great job at it, it made me want to go into the area.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The fast-paced nature of the role and how no two days are the same. Project Management goes hand-in-hand with change so there is always a lot going on and the environment you work in is often evolving at a quick pace. One day you could go from facilitating an IT workshop, to discussing a technical issue, then presenting to Senior Management about project progress. The role is varied and allows you to pick up a lot of useful skills. I’m constantly learning and get to meet new people from around the business.
What's the most exciting change or project happening within your area?
There are too many to list, the team get involved in so much strategic change! We work on anything from FCA legislation changes, the evolution of Cloud, infrastructure changes and the introduction of new systems for areas of the business, like HR and Finance.
Do you think there are lots of opportunities to grow and develop here?
Definitely, a company the size of Admiral means there are always opportunities to learn about new areas and roles within the business.
Admiral puts a strong focus on self-development, allowing their staff to undergo various trainings and really think about their career development."
What’s the culture like in your area?
We try to create a friendly, social environment and arrange fun and interesting events for the team. We have recently done wine tasting and have lots of events in mind for the summer when Covid restrictions are eased. It is one of the things that I think sets Admiral apart from places I have worked before; they want their employees to enjoy their time at work and put a huge emphasis on creating a fun environment.
