"A vacancy has arisen within Admiral Money for an Operations Manager.
This specific role involves leading the Underwriting team whilst we transition to a new way of working. This includes the management of the operational team as well as leading the strategic direction of underwriting. They will responsible for ensuring the team is performing to a high standard whilst supporting key strategic projects. The Operations Manager will play a vital role in creating a positive and productive working environment, whilst meeting department objectives.
The successful candidate will be able to quickly fit into a fast-moving, innovative and high-profile environment, and will be required to hit the ground running; at least two years’ prior experience in an underwriting management role is therefore a prerequisite. Candidates will be given responsibility to set direction and lead the way, whilst very much retaining a hands-on approach.

Admiral Money is an exciting, new division of Admiral Group. We have the freedom and innovation of a small start up with the security of a large parent company, Admiral.
The journey started when we launched unsecured personal loans in June 2017. We went on to be the first direct to consumer car finance provider in December 2017. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength and have some exciting plans for the future.
We’re looking for people who are keen to learn, excited about getting stuck in and are ready for a challenge to help us to achieve our aim of creating a special lending business for our customers.
Duties include
- Providing a point of escalation for your team and the wider business in relation to interpretation and application of our lending rules
- Alongside Credit Risk and Pricing Lead set our Risk Appetite for Exceptions to policy and matters of Underwriter discretion
- Build out an MI Suite to help in the effective management of both the tactical and strategic goals of the Underwriting Team
- Ensuring reporting/MI is reviewed, and insights are evaluated in order to improve performance
- Owning the control framework within the team, ensuring regular QA is undertaken and identifying training needs.
- Lead on strategic underwriting projects and ensure that operational requirements are clear and accurate
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least two years’ underwriting management experience in a lending business is essential
- Highly analytical. Ability to stand up own excel models to support forecasting and capacity planning.
- Degree in Business/ Economics related subject would be advantageous
- Have the confidence to challenge existing work practices, looking for opportunities to improve
- Able to work on their own initiative with excellent time management and organisation skills
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work as process/systems evolve
- Be an effective influencer with all levels of staff, with excellent communication skills
- Experience with the following would be advantageous:
- Unsecured personal loans or Motor Finance
- CIFAS/SIRA loadings and assessments
- Open Banking
- Consumer Duty
