11 years in the Contact Centre, and I’ve never looked back!

At 17 years old, Faye joined Admiral with no idea that 11 years later she’d still be here, thriving in her career, managing her very own team for four years already.

But what’s kept her with us for 11 years? Read Faye’s story below.

Did you always know what you wanted to do growing up?

I originally wanted to get into fashion, and I applied to go to university to complete a fashion degree and was accepted. But I quickly realised that actually, what I wanted was to get into the world of work (partly to pay for my mild shopping addiction!), so I applied for Admiral and a retail store and was successful in both applications, but something was telling me to go for Admiral. So, I joined Admiral straight after school at 17, and never looked back!

Why Admiral?

To be honest when I first joined, I never believed I’d be here 11 years later. I wasn’t fully confident I knew what I was stepping into or knew much about the insurance industry. At 17, my only focus really was to make money so I could start thinking of moving out of my parent’s house. I definitely didn’t think about long-term career goals during that time. That being said, the reason why I applied to Admiral was because I’d always heard great things about working here, and I knew that it would give me a steady job where I could work hard and achieve my financial goals.

What’s your career journey been like so far?

My career at Admiral, and specifically in the New Business department which I’ve always been in, has been diverse and rewarding. I began my career as an agent on the phone selling car insurance. During that time, I put my head down and focused on perfecting the role which resulted in me becoming quite an expert in my role and ultimately doing really well in the incentive scheme. After four years of developing my skills, I was promoted to Senior Executive, supporting the Team Manager in the daily operations of the sales team.

After another three years, I progressed to Team Manager which is my current position. In addition to my managerial duties, I also take on extra responsibilities with recruiting new candidates into our department. Over the past 11 years, my journey has been challenging and rewarding, shaping me into the person I am today.

What do you love about your job?

The main three things for me are:

Skills Development – I feel like I’ve learnt the ability to master communication, problem solving, customer service skills, and being able to deal with high pressure situations.

Culture – I always say to new candidates that the people and community are the reason why we’re a great place to work, the culture here is just amazing. It’s supportive, collaborative, and fosters a positive environment where people feel valued and motivated. The emphasis on teamwork and professional growth makes it a great place to develop your career. Additionally, colleague wellbeing and continuous learning is an absolute priority to us, which I feel sets us aside from other contact centres.

Diverse Experiences and Opportunities – The role and department expose you to a wide range of opportunities throughout your career, providing a diverse and dynamic work experience, allowing you to develop and progress. There are so many side projects that you can get involved in, and I’ve been part of some really impactful projects during my time, which makes the job all that more rewarding.

Personal – I started in Admiral not knowing who I was or what I wanted. The support from my colleagues and the company over these many years has supported me through big life milestones such as buying a house, a car, and starting a family, and I will forever be grateful.

What’s next for you?

Who knows? That’s the best part about working here! Having stepped outside my day to day role over the past seven months, taking on different responsibilities, this has allowed me to gain more knowledge within different sectors of the company. I’m interested in exploring different career paths to broaden my skills and experiences and the many opportunities Admiral has to offer.

There’s no better place than Admiral to Grow & Progress. Whether you’re like Faye and joining us at the start or your career, or you want to bring your extensive experience over to us, you’ll receive a warm welcome.
