I can’t ever recall being so free to be myself in a job

Introducing the next blog in our I Belong series where we give you a peek into what working at Admiral is like, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group. Meet Shelly...

I’m Shelly and I’ve worked in the Admiral Claims department for almost four years. During my time here I’ve been able to follow my passions and engage in many activities outside of my role, I really feel like I’m able to make a difference and most importantly, be myself!

What made you want to work at Admiral?

I chose to work here after learning about the culture. I was inspired by how it encourages you to be your authentic self while ensuring the customer is at the heart of everything it does. Admiral enables you to come to work as an individual, follow your own interests, give your daily best, and be recognised for your achievements.

What do you love about working here?

I can't recall ever being so free to be myself in a job, which in turn has encouraged me to work harder and explore my passions. I’ve had endless opportunities to self-develop too, within my department and beyond.

In addition to my role in Claims, I’m part of the Diversity and Inclusion working groups. Together with other volunteers, we explore ways to support people, influence changes and help build a workplace where everyone can be themselves. It’s a great thing to be involved in and has enabled me to meet lots of likeminded people from across the business. Helping to promote neurodiversity and being part of the Pride working group are things especially close to my heart and I love that I’m able to make a difference.
