Introducing the next blog in our I Belong series where we give you a peek into what working at Admiral is like, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group and giving insight into our friendly, diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Meet Leanne...
I've worked in Admiral for 22 years, mostly in the Learning and Development team. I didn’t go to university, as I didn’t feel that was the right path for me at the time and instead opted to kick-start my career with Admiral.
I joined as a Customer Services Representative and after a year, I saw an interesting internal opportunity. I applied and got the role of Trainer within the Learning and Development team.
My learning really started here. I’ve had the opportunity to work and study towards certificates and qualifications such as CIPD, Trainer and Quality Assessor (TAQA), Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and Coaching and Meditation facilitation.
All these opportunities to study and develop myself wouldn’t have come about if it wasn’t for Admiral believing in me and helping me on my desired development path to becoming a Trainer. I feel very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here, such as working in two of our overseas offices and the opportunities I continue to have.
Why did you choose Admiral as an employer?
I wanted to work for a recognised company and be part of the Admiral team. I’d heard great things about Admiral at the time, and sure enough, it’s all been true!
Why do you enjoy working at Admiral and what has kept you here?
I enjoy working at Admiral because everyone is accepted and heard – everyone can contribute to the bigger picture. My managers have all been available for me, no matter how big or small my query, which I think it pretty unique. We recognise working together is the key to our success, while always striving to be better.
Again, I’ve loved the amount of self-development opportunities available and the amount of investment the company puts into its people. Beyond the internal paths to different roles and areas within Admiral, the buy-a-book scheme is a fantastic way to develop! There’s an abundance of opportunity here, I’ve never really felt the need to look outside for opportunities. Everyone can have a great career here, one which will develop your skills and challenge you on a daily basis.
How has Admiral supported you?
Admiral has supported me in many ways; I’ve always felt well supported in my learning and development journey, but also through my lifestyle circumstances over the years. When I had children, Admiral supported me in the hours I could work, always being very flexible, accommodating and understanding, which was fantastic.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Admiral?
The culture is amazing, and I just love the determination to do the right thing for colleagues and customers. I feel proud to work at Admiral, especially when it comes to its commitment to ensure a safe environment is created for its people, where everyone feels included, respected and listened to – that’s so important to me. I also really appreciate how mental wellbeing is well supported here. As Admiral colleagues, we have access to great internal support, both via people and policies which is very important.
