We’ve always empowered our people to make a difference, that’s why we’re all encouraged to use our Impact Hours where we can volunteer when we’d otherwise be at work.
Many of our colleagues use their Impact Hours as a team, which is a great way to bond and improve on teamwork, while supporting the community at the same time! Our Group Talent and Reward team used their Impact Hours recently to help out at The Amelia Trust Farm in South Wales.
Jade from the team told us all about what they got up to.

How did you use your Impact Hours?
We used our Impact Hours as a team to volunteer at Amelia Trust Farm, which is a charity farm that provides therapeutic support to disadvantaged or vulnerable people. We helped support the organisation by spending the day doing manual work around the farm.
We were greeted by the farm manager, who gave the group an overview of the charity and the work it does in helping young adults across the Vale of Glamorgan. The team were split into separate groups; the first group were tasked with clearing the area around the perimeter fence of any overhanging foliage or branches, and the second group were asked to clear the pathway of weeds. After a few hours of work, the team spent an hour wandering around the grounds, visiting the animals on the farm, and enjoying the country air. We then all sat down for lunch, which was made by the kitchen on site and prepared by some young adults who work at the farm. After lunch, the team worked together to paint and seal furniture such as tables, benches and hutches. We all worked together for the second half of the day, we had so much fun!
Why did you decide to use your Impact Hours as a team?
Many in our team live in Italy, Spain and even Canada, so we saw it as both a fantastic team bonding opportunity, as well as a great way to help the community. Being able to offer our services for a day at a local charity gave everyone more of an understanding of the impact this organisation has, and while our offering of manual work seems like a small job, we felt a great sense of pride in being able to contribute. We improved our communication skills and how to work better as a team, and just generally had a great time spending the day together.
How would you like to use your Impact Hours in the future?
No one in my team had used our Impact Hours previously, but we all enjoyed it so much that we’ll certainly be looking to volunteer again soon! We felt we really made a difference at the farm, and it really brought the team together, we’ve already started discussing where we can volunteer next.
Want Admiral colleagues volunteering at your organisation?
