Rich, making a positive impact on our colleagues lives and lifting spirits

I feel I can make a difference at Admiral, I belong

Introducing the second blog of our new blog series, I Belong; giving you a peak into Admiral, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group and giving insight into our friendly, diverse and inclusive workplace culture.

We’re lucky to have some brilliant people work for us, meet Rich…

Making a difference to our colleagues’ lives

I’m Rich, I’m 34 and have worked at Admiral since 2008; starting my journey in Customer Services then heading over to the IT and Facilities Helpdesk, creating many new relationships with our colleagues from across the business, before my next move over to the Facilities department where I’ve spent most of my Admiral career.

My current role is based in People Services (HR) in the Workplace Support team and unlike many other areas of the business, our customers are our fellow colleagues. Often people will approach us at their lowest point, or during a life changing moment. Having the opportunity and being able to create a positive impact on their working life, and sometimes on their life in general, is a wonderful thing. Sometimes a small adjustment, or a bit of extra support in terms of a neuro or physical need can have a huge impact. We also pay close consideration to our colleagues’ wellbeing, and want to make sure they feel valued, safe and have a positive work life balance.

Why Admiral

I applied to work for Admiral straight out of university at 21 and only intended to stay for a year to give me time to find a job that fell within my degree; 13 years later I’m still in the company and for good reason. Admiral is a well-established business locally in Wales and is great at looking after its people, it’s not just a contact centre – it’s a huge organisation with many different departments, and with that comes ample opportunities to learn, grow and develop and this really attracted me to the company.

What keeps Rich here...

The people, a sense of community, so many benefits, a strong focus on health and wellbeing, a diverse workforce, being able to be a member of the Disability Diversity Forum, helping to change and shape Admiral’s future, being a member of the Admiral Choir and external training to enable me to develop in my career. All these things help to keep me happy and fulfilled here.

Advice for those wishing to join the Admiral team?

Be yourself, you’ll gain friends, have lots of fun and have the confidence knowing that you can progress your career wherever it takes you.
