"An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grade C fee earner within Serious Injuries Team at Admiral Law. This is a chance to be part of a growing department, within a market-leading firm. The cases in SIT are challenging but rewarding, supporting seriously injured clients to rebuild their lives and securing them compensation that can grant them the independence accident related injuries have taken away.
This is a fee earning role with a case load of up to 40 pre-litigated and litigated SIT multi-track files. Previous experience in handling multi-track litigation is highly desirable but not essential. Previous experience of running Part 7 claims is essential. The cases are mainly RTA, with some EL/PL claims. Your caseload will also include new Intermediate Track Files with associated Fixed Costs.
The core hours are Monday to Friday between 8.00am/9.00am – 5.00pm/6.00pm however there is an expectation inherent to this role that when required, a fee earner will need to travel to attend upon clients, witnesses and/or experts that may lead to either exceeding these hours or staying overnight in a hotel. Similarly attending Court hearings, trials or conferences/joint settlement meetings may require extended time out of the office. Work outside normal hours is subject to recovery through the department’s flexi-time scheme.
In addition to managing a case load, a SIT fee earner will be required at times to assist the Grade A solicitors upon their high value/catastrophic files with certain delegated tasks, accompanying them to conferences, attending upon witnesses, client visits etc. The combination of having a case load and assisting on more complex cases will require excellent time management skills and an ability to manage and prioritise tasks, while always meeting clients’ expectations.
Time recording skills will be essential although training and guidance will be provided. In any event targets within SIT are based upon:
• Recorded time (WIP)
• Costs recovered
Targets will be set for all fee earners within SIT upon completion of a settling in period (no less than 3 months).
Case handlers will be required to provide guidance to the case assistant(s) within SIT who will in turn be providing support to the Grade A/B fee earners. Further, all fee earners within SIT provide support and assistance via the Case Clinics to other case handling areas.
On-going training is a significant requirement within SIT, particularly in specialised areas (brain injury, spinal injury, amputations, catastrophic claims etc). Whenever such courses are attended externally a fee earner will be required to feedback to the team(s) within monthly meetings. SIT also provide internal training to other departments and case handlers will be asked to contribute upon areas within their knowledge and experience.
The core requirements for a fee earner within SIT are:
• Managing a case load of Intermediate and Multi-Track Files
• Achieving Targets (time and financial)
• Supporting Grade A fee earners
• Mentoring Grade D case assistants
• Supporting the wider firm/other departments through clinics and training
