This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the SM&CR team in Customer and Conduct to work alongside the Regulatory Advice team and support the Senior Manger population within EUI.

Background

The SM&CR (Senior Manager and Certification Regime) was brought in by the FCA to reduce harm to consumers by encouraging staff to take responsibility for their actions and to improve conduct at all levels. The regime enables the firm to clearly identify and understand who is responsible for what.

About the team

There are three main pillars to SMCR: Senior Managers Regime, Certified Persons Regime and Conduct Rules. The role of the team is to support Senior Managers and Certified individuals which can range from the upkeep of accountability documents, to completing regulatory applications.

You would be responsible for rolling out annual reviews such as Fitness and Propriety assessments, Handover document reviews, Reasonable Steps review etc as well as attending regular meetings with various stakeholders and reviewing conduct rule breaches. No previous experience is required as full training is provided.

There is currently a lot of opportunity for progression in this role and is also a great gateway to the world of compliance.

Main Duties

  • To take the lead and responsibility on gathering all documents and information required as part of a regulatory application / regulatory permission application for Senior Managers, Certified employees and Non-executive directors. This will also include submissions to the Nominations and Governance Committee as required.    
  • Reviewing and drafting all information in relation to regulatory applications / regulatory permissions, submitting that application to the FCA and communicate these matters to stakeholders as required and to be SME for this area. 
  • To host internal meetings to discuss regulatory applications / regulatory permissions as required.
  • To help ensure that the supply of management information is appropriate to the SMCR team and fits with the operational needs. 
  • To attend and minute various SMCR forums.
  • Responsibility for managing the annual Fitness&Proprity reviews for Senior Managers, Certified individuals and Non-executive directors.
  • Foster strong working relationships with others and make a valuable contribution to the SMCR Team. This will require working on other SMCR workstreams as required.
  • To act in accordance with the Risk Strategy and Policy, ensuring an appropriate risk register is maintained in the areas for which you have direct responsibility
  • To maintain a culture of audit, quality control and compliance and with advice sought from the SMCR manager and Group Compliance ensure that all aspects of the department’s operations comply with regulations.
  • Take part in the wider People Services, business governance / SMCR programmes as required by the changing demands of the business

  • Good understanding of the Financial Conduct Authority regulatory framework would be handy but isnt essential
  • Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments is desired but not essential
