"This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in the Digital Tribe within IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the development of our core customer facing portal which allow customers to service their Admiral products.

We are a progressive team working with languages and frameworks such as Java, Guidewire, React, JavaScript, and best in class tools such as NodeJS, Azure, Docker and Kubernetes.
IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open and collaborative. We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.
Location: we are open to discussion around remote working possibilities (UK only).
Main Duties
- Development and publication of the Online service customer facing applications, including the customer self service portal.
- Implementation and delivery of relevant coding technologies to defined standards.
- Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
- Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
- Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology.
- Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
- Working alongside and collaborating with other Senior Software Engineers on the team.
- Support and mentoring for other members of the team.
- Work with shared services teams to ensure dependencies are raised and managed.
- Help to develop and promote the long-term technical strategy.
- Support the deployment of changes into the production environment and aid in the investigation of live issues or incidents.
- Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
- Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.
Experience Required
Experience and Skills :
- Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
- Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors and management.
- Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
- Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team through mentoring and coaching.
- A focus on continuous improvement and a desire to push your ideas forward.
- Able to plan and coordinate technical requirements and tasks across the team.
- Proactive approach to problem solving and a desire for continual learning and improvement.
Technical skills
Essential
- Commercial experience developing with Java 8 or later.
- Experience of developing middleware and server-side applications.
- Knowledge of the Java Hibernate, web services and Spring frameworks/libraries.
- An understanding of REST and SOAP.
- Knowledge of database concepts and SQL.
- Familiar with build tools such as Maven or Ant.
- Knowledge of version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Experience of deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss or Apache.
- Experience of implementing and consuming SOAP or RESTful web services.
- Experience of unit and acceptance testing.
Desirable
- Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks/libraries such as React.
- Understanding of Node.js and NPM.
- Working knowledge of Javascript/Typescript, HTML and CSS (HTML5 and CSS3) with commercial experience of building websites across multiple platforms and devices.
- Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP.
- Experience with containerisation products such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- Experience of developing with AngularJS.
- Working knowledge of UI testing frameworks such as Selenium and Protractor.
- Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
- Knowledge of identity management frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect and their application.
- Awareness of Guidewire products such as Policy Centre and Billing Centre, and the Customer Engage Digital suite.
- An understanding of networking (load balancing, security, firewalls, reverse proxies etc).
- Understanding of native mobile app development (iOS and Android).
