"As the only FTSE 100 Company headquartered in Wales and ranked one of the best big companies to work for by the Sunday Times, Admiral is an exciting place to launch your career. We are proud to be the only company to have been named one of the Best Companies to Work For every year since 2001. You may know us as a household name in car insurance, but here at Admiral, we specialise in several areas of financial services.
For our General Graduate Programme, we’re looking for ambitious and enthusiastic graduates with a work-hard, play-hard mentality and the drive to succeed, who are keen to join the fast-paced world of financial services at our international HQ in Cardiff.
We firmly believe that the transferrable skills developed in your degree form a strong foundation for you to build upon during the graduate programme. We want to see a passion for developing yourself and your skills and to constantly challenge and be challenged.
The programme is grad-led, meaning after your first placement you have a say in where you end up next. This gives you the flexibility to shape your experience based on your interests and career aspirations. You’ll complete at least three 6-month rotations in diverse business areas. Recent grads have undertaken placements in areas including Product, Underwriting, IT, Corporate Governance, Automation, Claims, Procurement, Project Management, and Marketing. Beyond the world of motor insurance, there are plenty of opportunities in our start-ups (AFSL and Admiral Pioneer), as well as other product lines including Household and Pet.
Throughout the graduate programme, you’ll be given real projects that will have a measurable impact on our business. You’ll be exposed to a variety of departments, be given real responsibility, and will be expected to push yourself further with each placement. You’ll need to deliver value to our business and always be on the lookout for innovative solutions.
In return, we will invest heavily in you and your personal and professional development. You will gain a nationally recognised professional management qualification through the Admiral Academy and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). You’ll be supported by our Graduate Programme Manager, as well as your own dedicated business mentor and graduate buddy, for help, advice, and professional guidance throughout the graduate programme.
We currently have operations in Spain, Italy, France, the USA, Canada, and India, so there may be opportunities to work alongside your overseas colleagues to share ideas and transfer knowledge. This can sometimes include visits abroad, which can vary anywhere from a few days to a few months or even years.
Graduates also have lots of opportunities to get involved with extra projects alongside their placements. For example, we have the Graduate Fun Squad who meet monthly and plan our afternoons out, Christmas party, and all things fun!
During your first year with us, you’ll also be involved in Challenge Admiral, which aims to raise money for The Wallich and The British Heart Foundation. As a group you’ll be responsible for running all fundraisers; previous groups have run prize draws, sold merchandise, run online gaming tournaments, and participated in half-marathons.
By the end of the Admiral Graduate Programme, you will be ready to move into a permanent role. Our aim is for the programme to help pave the way for you to have a successful, rewarding, and exciting career with us. You'll have the chance to shape your career and find something that you truly enjoy.
