Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in our IT Delivery department, in which you will be part of the development of our core customer-facing portal which allows customers to service their Admiral products.

We are a progressive team working with cutting edge technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Guidewire, AngularJS, REACT, and best in class tools such as NodeJS, NPM, and CI/CD processes. 

IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open, and collaborative.  We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions, and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.

Main Duties

  • Development and publication of the Customer Portal, which is an application built using the Guidewire Customer Engage Product. This uses GOSU technology and interacts with the Guidewire Policy and Billing Centre applications via Digital EDGE services.
  • Implementation and delivery of relevant coding technologies to defined standards.
  • Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
  • Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology. 
  • Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
  • Input into initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for knowledge transfer and provide where appropriate.
  • Feed into IT Strategy.
  • Ensure the software delivered is performant, secure, and scalable.
  • Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
  • Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors, and management.
  • Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
  • Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team.
  • A focus on continuous improvement.

Technical Skills

Essential:

  • Commercial experience developing with Java 8 or later.
  • Knowledge of database concepts and SQL.
  • Experience in developing middleware and server-side applications.
  • Experience in implementing and consuming SOAP or RESTful web services.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Java Hibernate, web services, and Spring frameworks/libraries.
  • Experience in developing applications using Spring Boot.
  • Familiar with build tools such as Maven or Ant.
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git or SVN.
  • An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience in deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss, or Apache.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing, firewalls, resiliency, reverse proxies, etc.
  • Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks/libraries such as AngularJS or React.
  • Knowledge of identity management frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect and their application.
  • Awareness of Guidewire products such as Policy Centre and Billing Centre and the Customer Engage Digital suite.
