Job Purpose

Reporting to the IT Risk and Compliance Manager, the IT Controls Analyst will be responsible for providing assurance on the IT departments adherence to legislation, regulation and internal policy, assessing the effectiveness of controls for key services and systems, informing the risk register and driving improvement actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other internal departments, such as Facilities, Compliance, Procurement, Info Sec and People Services to ensure that IT are aware of and compliant with internal Policy requirements
  • Work closely with the IT Risk & Compliance Manager, Group Risk and Group Compliance to assess Compliance Risk and develop strategies to mitigate these
  • Conduct and oversee periodic assurance activities to ensure compliance is maintained within the department
  • Identify, evaluate and document the design, execution and effectiveness of the IT departments internal controls
  • Work with IT Risk Analysts to perform risk and control assessments and drive improvement actions to reduce risk exposure
  • Work closely with Internal Audit, IT Staff, External Auditors and relevant business representatives to test and report on the adequacy and effectiveness of IT Controls
  • Maintain a Control Library for IT
  • Maintain oversight of remediation activity identified by various audit and regulatory bodies
  • Train process owners within IT in their responsibilities relating to internal policies and IT Controls
  • Ensure that the Department works to Admiral IT Minimum Standards
  • Hold stakeholder discussions to best improve IT governance controls
  • Produce control MI and reporting packs

Experience and Qualifications Required


  • Previous experience of assessing control effectiveness in IT
  • Experience of performing audit functions within a technical environment
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements within the Financial Services industry
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good understanding of risk management
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Excellent documentation and report writing skills
  • Able to work in a fast paced, and changing environment
  • Well organised
  • High attention to detail


  • Formal training in risk, audit and compliance disciplines
  • Experience of working with Jira and Confluence
  • Foundation Level training in ITIL
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and frameworks e.g. 27001
