Job Description

Our Head of SME, based in Cardiff, will play a leading role in developing and launching our insurance proposition for Small Medium Enterprises.

The successful candidate will be involved in determining the optimal product offering and distribution model for SMEs, leveraging Admiral’s existing strengths and building a team with SME-specific capabilities.

The Head of SME will be in charge of:

  • Designing and launching the new business unit, including defining an ambitious and achievable business plan
  • Setting up an operating model that uses digital services and data as competitive advantages
  • Hiring and coordinating the resources required to deliver on the SME business plan
  • Managing the business levers to promote growth and medium-term profitability
  • Delivering a distinctive and innovative offering to SME customers
  • Maintaining high quality and consistency in service delivery
  • Representing the SME business on internal committees and in budget and funding decision-making

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in the SME market (in either insurance or other financial services) and a vision for building a distinctive proposition
  • The credibility to act as the main interface with external counterparties (e.g. capacity providers, distribution channels, other suppliers) and as the Head of the SME team (potentially including new business, customer service, claims, underwriting)
  • A strong passion for high-tech and digital businesses

The ideal candidate is also likely to have:

  • A track record of developing growing teams and of building new products/offerings
  • A desire to build and support a business unit over the long-term
  • A strong knowledge of digital market dynamics and digital abilities
  • A proactive and positive mindset, oriented towards continuous improvement
  • An ability to change their mind and to embrace new ideas
  • The flexibility to adapt to experience, including adapting the business model according to what works
