  • Help manage the engagement of our external Motor reserve review
  • Support the development of our review work on smaller products
  • Play a hands-on role in all reserving tasks, including the calculation and review of Solvency II technical provisions
  • Support the ongoing development of our PPO data monitoring and valuation model development
  • Support the delivery of our regular MI packs and quarterly reports
  • Take a proactive role in building upon standard actuarial techniques given the uncertain claims environment
  • Continue to build upon established relationships with our claims and pricing departments on key reserving matters
  • Closely interact with our capital team to assist with regular capital assessments, and feed into model developments and model use
  • Work with our reinsurance manager on excess of loss reinsurance and its impact on our reserves
  • Work alongside our “line two” to assist their review and challenge
  • Support Group reserving, sharing UK best practice and understanding the different issues across our multinational business
  • Support the wider Group Finance team with the ongoing preparations for IFRS17 implementation

Skills and Experience:

  • Nearly / Newly Qualified actuary – ideally 3-5 years reserving experience
  • Excellent project management and time management skills
  • Proficient in spreadsheet tools (e.g. Microsoft Excel and Access) with experience of VBA and SAS an advantage
  • An eye for detail – not afraid of getting into the detail behind the data/calculations to challenge or be challenged
  • Experience of reserving within personal lines general insurance, including UK Motor
  • Good knowledge of Solvency II, including technical provisions
  • Excellent communication, relationship and presentation skills – to senior management and non-actuarial colleagues in particular
  • Excellent academic background and strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Experience of using RESQ software beneficial
  • Good understanding of external motor market developments e.g. Civil Liability Bill
