Introduction

This role will sit within our People Services (HR) Systems team, however, the initial 12-month project will be in our Communications department. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is flexible and adaptable to change.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work on a small team of developers based in the Communications department, which has been voted the Best Small Department in the Group, five times!

Your main audience will be staff from around the Group including our international operations. The work will vary from day to day, with a range of requests from all levels of the business. You will also have the opportunity to make changes to the Group’s corporate website.

About the Team

The Communications team consists of Developers, Support, Business Analysts and a project manager. We work full time from Monday to Friday and have very flexible working hours.

The team have a mixed skill set, so we don’t expect you to be a master of everything involved; although we are looking for someone with a passion to learn! We all love what we do and work hard to do the best job possible.

The department uses a variety of tools to communicate information across the Group and to gain feedback from staff on their ideas and how they feel about working here.

Job Purpose

Working in a close and friendly team, the successful candidate will report to the Communications Project Manager and People Services (HR) Systems Manager respectively. You will help us support, research and build features to increase the effectiveness of the Group’s Intranet as a communication and information tool. Other responsibilities may include our Corporate Website – admiralgroup.co.uk.

Main Duties

Your main duties will be based around developing new features or adapting and evolving existing ones, to either improve communication around the Group, or help people and make their job that little bit easier. Although you’ll spend a lot of your time writing code, no two days will be the same. You’ll need to get out into the business and meet the people that are using your products. It’s this part of the role that makes it unique to other developer environments.

Experience and Qualifications Required

We have a large number of ambitious projects to work on and need somebody to join us who can contribute from day one. This role will give you significant exposure to the business; therefore, the ability to prioritise complex workloads and effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders will be essential.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of Drupal 7 CMS (will consider Drupal 8)
  • Working knowledge of basic web languages including HTML, JS, CSS, PHP and SQL
  • Experience in using GIT or similar version control system
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • An enthusiasm for code and an active interest in new methods and technologies
  • Good problem-solving abilities, and creative and innovative thinking
  • An organised and methodical approach to your work
  • Flexible and happy to help attitude
  • The ability to work to deadlines, multitask and work on several projects at once (prioritising workload effectively)
  • An ability to manage a project from start to finish
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical skills

Desirable

  • Some knowledge of Linux web servers and the typical LAMP stack or cloud environments.
