About the role

This role is within the data development team, transforming the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as an agile process, inclusive of DevOps, automation and cloud initiatives that support our speed of delivery and the high quality of our services. We are a technology leader for advanced automation and architecture.

Within our organisation, there is a growing focus on data and data-driven decision-making, a key part of your new role will be to minimise any risks associated with data moving from source applications into our data warehouse which is where the business relies on us to ensure this data is complete and of the highest quality.

Joining an experienced test team, you will engage with business users, engineers and architects to understand the requirements and produce a test plan ensuring test coverage meets our high standards. We need someone who is comfortable preparing, maintaining and executing test scripts to the agreed quality process. You will have a minimum ISTQB foundation certificate in software testing or MTA certificate in database development. Someone who is willing to challenge at peer review and work closely to standards and processes will thrive in this role and perfect our CD pipelines.

Key competencies:

  • Experience of complex IT projects through to completion, resulting in delivery of robust and high-quality applications.
  • Developing our data management continuous delivery pipelines for deployment of advanced cloud data services.
  • Proven software testing experience including the implementation of smoke tests, unit tests or Pester tests as well as exploratory testing/alerting.
  • Must be passionate about DevOps and have a resilient attitude in pushing the DevOps perspective within a Kanban team.
  • Experience of working in highly dynamic teams using agile methodologies often under demanding timescales.
  • Experience of collaborating and knowledge transfer to mixed customer and supplier teams while delivering to agreed timelines would be highly beneficial.
  • Good analysis skills with proven ability to solve problems.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to new processes and requirements in a dynamic environment.
  • Positive outlook and desire to learn and help drive and instil technical excellence within the IT department.
  • Strong, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people as and when required.
  • Deliver projects to time, budget and quality in order to deliver business goals.
  • Proactively integrate and build positive working relationships within and outside of the immediate team and function.
  • Identify training needs for you and the wider team.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies and recognise the potential value they bring to


Essential Skills:

  • Strong functional testing experience with a proven ability to write and execute test cases based on specifications/user stories.
  • Experience of tools such as VSTS (Azure DevOps).
  • Good understanding and knowledge of ETL and ETL Tools such as SSIS, BIML, PowerShell or desirably Data Factories.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of data platform provisioning tools such as ARM, PowerShell.
  • Must have Database Technology experience in SQL Server 2016 (or above) and Azure SQL DB
    • Desirable to have: Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Databricks, Data Factories or related.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of cloud-based testing.
  • Experience of Azure monitoring tools such as log analytics and application insights or customised tooling that allow you to maximize the performance and availability of your cloud resources and applications.
  • Knowledge and experience of slowly changing dimensions and Kimball design.
  • Knowledge of TDE and Key Vault.
  • Experienced with data warehousing testing and database testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or analytical field with preferred focus on Computer Science or Information Systems (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
