This is a new, rare and exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic graduate with good numerical skills to join us in a graduate level role. You’ll be part of Admiral’s Travel Insurance team, specially working within Travel Pricing. This part of the team is responsible for looking at various sources of data to evaluate the risk a customer poses to us and to price their travel insurance policy accordingly. You’ll provide strategic support to our Travel Insurance product by conducting pricing reviews and evaluating different customer segments.

Your role will involve working closely with the Head of Travel Pricing to interpret data efficiently and make suggestions for pricing changes, as well as thinking about strategies for using external data sources to help us improve our pricing model.

To succeed you’ll need to be a fast-learner and willing to learn new programming skills, like using SAS and other related software for manipulating and analysing big data. We’re looking for someone keen to take on new challenges and who is focused on getting things done.

Full training for the role will be provided under the mentorship of the Head of Travel Pricing. You’ll be part of a small team of four and will have plenty of opportunity to interact and learn from others, as well as bring your own ideas and suggestions.

Prior work experience is not required for the role, but you should be able to demonstrate willingness to work hard and to succeed, for example from your prior university coursework and/or extracurricular activities.

The role will be based in our HQ in Cardiff.

Main duties

This is a broad role in which we expect you to become a pricing/data expert with the following responsibilities (after initial training period):

  • review pricing structure/model and recommend changes based on analysing different customer segments
  • review external data sources and assess their value to travel insurance pricing
  • create and run regular reports that highlight how different customer segments perform
  • constantly improve our pricing model
  • create and run other reports as need by the team and department
  • act as a liaison and answer any pricing-related queries

Experience and qualifications required

  • 2.1 or higher in a numerate degree such as Mathematics, Engineering or Economics
  • Good Excel Skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and priorities
  • Highly motivated and ability to work off your own initiative
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience with any programming language is preferred, however full in-house training will be provided as needed
