Job Purpose

To work within a small team to deliver and maintain Admiral’s infrastructure and technology environments. Helping to drive pro-active support activities in order to maintain and improve the security (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability) of the infrastructure, through upgrades to operating systems and business applications/software.

Main Duties

To ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Admiral’s infrastructure system services, applications and information.

To work within the wider IT function to ensure that the technical estate is maintained as fit-for-purpose and maintained to pre-determined standards.

Other duties include:

  • Maintenance of infrastructure and technology including the capacity and associated housekeeping
  • Firmware, OS, middleware and application upgrades including identify the need for upgrade and maintenance
  • Vulnerability assessment and management
  • Facilitate proactive remediation of vulnerabilities; analyzing the impact and applicability to the environment and communicating applicable vulnerabilities and recommended remediation actions
  • Patch maintenance and scheduling
  • Maintaining successful enterprise backups where they are required; liaising with the managed service provider
  • Assist in the design and promotion of best practices
  • Research existing products and technologies whilst also monitoring emerging technologies
  • Provide recommendations and support for risk/issue management, operational support and change activities

The role may require minimal travel to other Admiral offices and an opportunity to support the IT on call function, after an appropriate period of employment has been completed, may also be offered.

Experience and Qualifications Desired

The role holder will need to have demonstrable experience in at least one of the sets of skills listed below.

Experience in additional areas listed would be very beneficial:

System Administration:

  • Linux (Red Hat/Centos)
  • Windows Server (2K8/2K12)
  • VMware 6.5 (virtualisation)
  • Relevant system admin tools
  • Ivanti (LANDesk) Management Suite

DB Admin:



  • Networking skills i.e. DNS, firewall, switch configuration
  • Load balancing (F5 BIG-IP, CISCO ACE)

Security management:

  • Patch management
  • System/software upgrades
  • Software package management & deployment
  • OS deployment
