Admiral Chief executive David Stevens today discusses our open minded approach to recruitment

To achieve this market success we need a committed and expert workforce with the right skills and drive. I genuinely believe that our open-minded recruitment policy based on attracting talented recruits, regardless of background has played a huge part in building our success.

One of the projects Admiral gets involved in with the Prince’s Trust charity in Wales is the “Get into Customer Services’ programme. The scheme covers everything from communication and job-search skills, to interview techniques and team-building. Some people, who have not had the best start in life and may have been out of work for some time, often just need a confidence boost and for people to take what they have to offer seriously.

The latest course ensured all 17 of the young people who took part achieved an industry-recognised qualification from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Many of these end up landing a job with us in our Customer Services department.

As one successful candidate said: “I appreciated that Admiral put trust in me and took me on board when I didn’t have experience. When other companies turned away, Admiral gave me a shot - and I’ll always be grateful for that”. This person is now a key member of our Web Development team within the HR department, with a very promising career ahead of him.

This isn’t just about doing what’s right. An open minded approach to recruitment also makes sound business sense. We’ve been voted Best Car Insurance Provider by consumers three years running. A new customer now joins Admiral Group every 12 seconds. Much of that success is down to the great people we have at Admiral – and our open-minded approach to hiring talent from all walks of life.
