Celebrating inclusion

Why is there a rainbow flag on our intranet?

February is LGBT History month, an annual observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history. The celebration aims to highlight role models and recognise the contributions of the LGBT community to our history.

We’re extremely proud of our diverse workforce and so to celebrate the LGBT History month, we’ve added a rainbow theme to our intranet site. The rainbow flag was originally devised by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in the 1970s and has developed as a symbol of LGBT pride over the years.

Equali-Tea Parties

Our LGBT+ Forum are hosting Equali-Tea Parties across our Welsh offices throughout February. They are informal sessions to highlight the work we, as a company, are doing as part of the Diversity and Inclusion working group and chat about how we can all support a more diverse and inclusive workplace. The tea parties are open to everyone whether or not you identify as LGBT.

Pride activities

Pride Cymru, who we have supported for many years, are holding an all-day festival of LGBT+ History on 9th February in the Senedd, Cardiff Bay. More information and free tickets can be reserved here.

We are also hosting Pride Cymru’s Icons and Allies exhibit, a celebration of twenty inspirational people from Welsh past, in the reception areas of Ty Admiral, Admiral Group House and Admiral House this month too.

LGBT+ network

We’ve also set up a staff group to offer support, arrange social events and to support Pride Cymru and other LGBT+ initiatives in the area. The group is open to all and we welcome allies.
