Interns Summer Away Day at Welshfest

As the weather had been so great in Cardiff over the past few weeks, the interns thought that being outside all day in a Welsh music festival would be a great idea for their summer away day. Sunshine, music and optimum tanning time!

After a morning in work, we headed to Brewhouse & Kitchen for lunch and tried some of the many homebrewed beers they offer. Fed and watered, we were ready to hit the festival. What we didn’t realise, was how difficult it would be to find the festival! A short bus trip and fifteen-minute walk turned into a three-mile hike which became very interesting when it started pouring…

With three umbrellas between ten of us, we continued walking, soaking wet but still in good spirits.

‘The rain only made the situation funnier, everyone was laughing.’ – Eilidh Mehta, Marketing Intern

‘I was soaked through, but it was great! We definitely saw the funny side of it.’ – Adreese Ashfaq, Pricing Analyst Intern

We finally got to the grounds of Coedarhydyglyn Estate and entered the festival. We sat in front of the stage and listened to the live music, which included a local Cardiff band named ‘Carolines’, who were really good! We also experienced the ‘dance tent’, which was interesting and very loud – we didn’t stay there long! ‘The dance tent was something else’ explained Sam Saunders, Risk Intern.

After spending some time listening to the music we walked and shopped around the stalls. There were also fairground rides set up for the festival and some of the boys were brave enough to ride the Twister. As the day went on, the sun began to come back out, so we got some food and went back to enjoy the music for a little longer, before heading back to Cardiff.

Despite the weather we had a great day out and Welshfest was an experience we will not forget for a while!

We’ll be recruiting for next summer’s internship in the new year, or if you’re graduating soon, you can apply for our core or analyst grad programmes from September.
