The people behind the promotions – Chris, Senior Front End Web Developer
Chris started his Admiral career as a Frontend Web Developer within the Marketing department. Four years later, he has secured a promotion as Senior Web Developer.
‘’Before I started working at Admiral I had a preconceived idea that the work wasn’t going to be very varied or fast paced as I had only ever worked for small agencies, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. In Admiral I’m actually working at a faster pace than I used to in agencies. Day-to-day I am working on so many different projects - one morning I can be completing basic updates to the website, then later on I can be building a complete new asset library working closely with our internal Design team or rebuilding one of our brands websites. The Design team are very specific as to how they see a design working, which gives our development team license to source new language techniques and programming methods to deliver. In Admiral we like to be the best and deliver the best quality, producing innovative experiences for our customers.
‘’During my time here I’ve helped to rebuild the websites for Admiral, Diamond, Elephant, and Gladiator – that’s four websites in four years. We’ve also won Website of The Year in the insurance category twice and most popular website in the insurance sector – something I’m extremely proud of!
‘’As a developer I joined the company using more basic ways of developing sites. It’s been great seeing the team develop and we now have the ability to use more modern practices – HTML5, CCS3, SASS, Responsive Design etc., as well as multiple backend frameworks for our CMS’s and secure systems.’’
We asked Chris what made him change from an agency to a large FTSE 100 company and why he has stayed here.
‘’I actually joined Admiral because they sponsored the WRU – one of my passions! But from the moment I walked through the doors for my interview I immediately loved the feel and the environment here – people were chatting, enjoying their breaks and enjoying their jobs. Admiral has a very unique culture which is encouraged by senior managmenet, creating a more conducive working environment.
‘’Another passion of mine is dedicating my time and efforts to Royal Family Kids UK charity (a charity dedicated to meeting the unique needs of looked-after children and children at risk). Admiral has given me paid time off to do this and in 4 years have donated over £3,000 in company money, dedicating the time of those on the Graduate Scheme and Intern Scheme to fundraising and collecting much needed items for RFK camps."
