This is why we Love Admiral. The Global Mobility Project – A year in Italy!
Richard joined Admiral as a Data Analyst in our Telematics team not long after finishing University in Cardiff where he studied Physics.
‘’I wanted to work in a company with a good reputation. I did a numerical degree and I wanted to use it. I even remember saying to the interviewers ‘That was the most fun interview I’ve ever had!’’
Richard spent 2 years building his skills in Data Analytics and then spotted an opportunity; The Global Mobility Project, this was headed up by Nicolletta, Head of People and Culture in Rastreator. The project set out to place talented people in the business in new areas where they could utilise their skills most. Richard put his name down, unknowing to what it would bring in 6 months time.
There was an opportunity for a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst in Conte, Admiral’s Italian branch, which called for some specialist knowledge from the UK team.
‘‘I was told about the role and confirmed my interest within about 10 seconds. I had a Skype interview and before I knew it I was on my way to Italy!’’
The BI team in Conte look after reporting and providing insights for Senior Management. It’s a fairly new team in Conte, including 10 talented analysts from all around the world.
‘’My role was to help improve processes using my UK business knowledge. The first challenge however was getting to grips with the language, I had some basic knowledge but it was certainly a new experience and a huge privilege to live and work in a new culture and language. Everyone was welcoming and helpful, the only way to truly become fluent was to get out there and speak to people! The Italian culture was great, and there was so much amazing food!
‘’The year I spent in Conte was an amazing experience; it really helped me learn how to communicate professionally. There are only about 600 employees in Conte compared to the thousands in the Admiral Head Office; it gave me a lot more exposure and responsibility. I developed some really useful technical skills in database management and agile working.
‘‘I have now returned to the UK Head Office, I feel like I have realised the career direction I want and I am confident in pursuing a career in Project Management with Admiral. I’m already working on new projects in Partnerships and Innovation where I have been able to put a lot of my new skills to use. I’m really looking forward to see what my future career at Admiral holds!’’
