Happy Days at Admiral
We pride ourselves on being a happy place to work and our key philosophy is “People who like what they do, do it better!”
As a company we have four commitments: Our Customers, Our People, Our Community, and Our Environment. This is because we want to make a positive contribution to all four and see our purpose beyond just turning a profit (though we are good at that too!).
Our working culture is wholeheartedly focussed on our four pillars: Communication, Equality, Reward & Recognition, and Fun. Our culture reflects our core philosophy and our aim is always to create a good working environment, where people will be happy to work.
Communication ensures our staff members are able to ask questions, approach managers, and know what is happening in the wider business. This helps everyone feel empowered and engaged, as well as allowing us to do our jobs better.
Equality means that everyone is treated fairly and we don’t create hurdles for people. It also means that everyone is a shareholder. We have a flat hierarchy and nobody gets preferential treatment, regardless of their status within Admiral. This strengthens our feeling of truly being part of the company.
Reward and Recognition is important to keep people motivated and engaged. We have a great range of benefits for our staff members giving everyone something to be happy about. We also encourage everyone’s input into our benefits so that we can always provide those perks that staff members truly care about.
And finally, Fun, is the final pillar holding up the Admiral culture. Some of our jobs can be particularly tough, for example those dealing with unhappy customers, or business critical projects. It’s therefore important to reward our staff members with fun activities as a thank you for their efforts and contribution to the company.
The main purpose of our four pillars is to ensure we have happy staff members, because when our people our happy, they give a better service, which means our customers are happy too!
But don’t just take our word for it – have a read below to find out why people enjoy working for Admiral:
Vaughan, a Senior Data Scientist, joined Admiral on the graduate programme in 2011. ''My highlights include a treasure hunt in Swansea, Business Analytics winning an award for raising money for the Prince’s Trust and winning tickets to Wales’ 30-3 victory against England in the Six Nations in 2013. As the cliché goes, I really didn’t foresee myself staying here for the length that I have but Admiral is so unique in its approach I think it would be hard to find another company like it’’
Marisja joined Admiral in 2015 after completing her MBA at INSEAD. “I believe people really enjoy their work and want to give their best, which strongly contributes to a successful business. The culture is open and honest, there is no hierarchy, people are encouraged to use their talent, and we have a lot of fun in the process. All of these things make it a complete pleasure to come to work each day, and remain motivated to do our best for the business and our clients. It is such a privilege that when I say ‘I love my job’, I can truly mean it!”
Adam joined our New Business department taking calls from customers last year. As a top performer he earned a Star Lunch with CEO, David Stevens, and Head of Renewals, Alberto Shiavon. “One of my highlights was my star lunch with David Stevens and Alberto. We talked about my achievements and they encouraged me to apply for the advertised MI Analyst job. They both gave me that boost of confidence I needed to apply. Now within a year of starting in New Business I have progressed to a Speech Analyst working within the New Business Management Information team”
It’s not just us either – we have repeatedly been recognized as a great place to work by both the Sunday Times and the Great Place to Work institute and have won awards both in the UK and in our overseas sites.
