Stavros Pantos tells us about his experience on the Admiral undergraduate summer internship
Stavros, who's originally from Greece, joined our undergraduate summer internship in June 2015. We caught up with him to find out how he's been getting along.
The summer internship offered by Admiral is the “admiral” of undergraduate internships!
So far, I've had a fantastic summer experience working for a leading FTSE 100 insurance company, operating in 5 countries! My Admiral journey has included various training sessions from Myers-Briggs and MI, to presentation skills and project management, that have really helped me improve my skills.
I am really enjoying the unique combination of projects, training sessions and team building activities as part of my summer internship. Some highlights were the afternoon out with the Claims Solutions team at Pontcanna fields, where I played cricket for the first time in my life and the trip to South Wales, observing the magnificent landscape of the Brecon Beacons, whilst also visiting two Norman Castles. Additionally, I find Ports of Calls really helpful, allowing me to understand more about Admiral and insurance in general, with Large Loss being my favourite Port of Call, so far!
The Ty Admiral building and location is amazing and my favourite place is the canteen, where I choose fruit every morning, have lunch with the other interns and take my favourite panini home in the afternoon, while also listening to the music on certain occasions!
The working environment is excellent and everyone is very friendly, kind and supportive. From my perspective, the most important thing is that everyone listens to you, appreciates your effort and is always there to assist you.
Insurance and Admiral was an ideal destination for me, especially due to the projects I attempted, including profiling our competitors, building game theory and econometric models and restructuring claims, all of which were very interesting and intellectually challenging.
I've already learnt a lot about insurance and the wonderful world of claims and it's a privilege being a member of the Claims Solutions team, working with Ben Hobbs. I know the Admiral motto is that you do better the things that you enjoy - to be honest I am enjoying every single moment of my internship. If I had the choice or the chance, I would be more than happy to do it again!
