Inside Admiral

Admiral and the Prince's Trust

Young jobseekers from across South West Wales have been given a great chance to boost their employability after taking part in a unique course run by Admiral and youth charity The Prince’s Trust.

The Get into Customer Services programme covers everything from communication and job search skills to interview techniques and team building.

The latest course also ensured all 17 of the young people who took part achieved an industry recognised qualification from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

The courses are run twice a year in Swansea and twice in Cardiff and all those who take part are guaranteed a telephone interview for a position in Admiral’s Customer Services department.

Michael, 20, from Brynhyfryd took part in the most recent course in Swansea and said: “Before the course I was working as a receptionist and bar tender.

“The reason I came to the course was I had heard so much about Admiral.

“I thought they had a good reputation and thought it would be a good experience for myself.”

Lauren, 18, from Gorseinon also attended the course in Swansea and said: “Since being on the course I really enjoyed myself and meeting new people.

“From this experience I boosted my confidence.”

The latest course was brought to an end with a presentation at Admiral’s Swansea offices by all those who took part.

Ian Thomas, Programme Manager for The Prince’s Trust in Wales, presented everyone who took part in the Swansea course with a certificate recognising their achievements and said: “All the skills they learned on the course are skills they can take away and take on in life.

“They are all transferable skills.

“The only reason people stay on this programme is to better themselves and from this presentation that is exactly what they have done.”

Lesley Kirkpatrick, Director for The Prince’s Trust Cymru, said: “Unemployed young people often just need a chance to prove they have the motivation and talent required to get on the career ladder.

“Get into programmes, like the ones we run with our fantastic partners at Admiral, not only develop key skills and confidence, but also bridge the gap between employers and young job seekers. We are grateful to Admiral for their continued support.”
