Admiral Money is a growing financial services business and is on track to become a strategic pillar within the Admiral Group. We have a vacancy for a Test Automation Engineer to join us.

About Admiral Money

Admiral Money is an exciting, new division of Admiral Group. We have the freedom and innovation of a small start up with the security of a large parent company, Admiral. 

The journey started when we launched unsecured personal loans in June 2017. We went on to be the first direct to consumer car finance provider in December 2017. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength and have some exciting plans for the future.

We’re looking for people who are keen to learn, excited about getting stuck in and are ready for a challenge to help us to achieve our aim of creating a special lending business for our customers. 

Role Overview

The aim of this role is to develop and maintain automated test frameworks for UI (Cypress), API (Python) and integration tests to ensure software is robust, fit for purpose and is suitable as a release candidate to the production environment. We are looking for someone to provide technical expertise to team and organisation, sharing best practice, knowledge and skills through coaching and mentoring of peers. The successful candidate will help to enforce quality standards and implement processes changes where required.

Key Tasks

  • Analyse requirements to plan and execute comprehensive, thorough, and effective test plans in order to carry out automated functional and regression testing of web applications
  • Work with the development team and non-technical stakeholders at every stage of the SDLC to ensure functionality that is delivered into the live environment is of high quality
  • Critically analyse the existing automation test framework and implement changes and improvements to make automated testing more robust and raise the profile of automation within the wider business
  • Collaborate with test analysts to ensure automated test suites are up to date and are in line with current functionality and ensure that existing automated tests are maintained
  • Provide authoritative automation testing leadership within department in an Agile working environment using Scrum/Agile methodologies
  • Peer review test cases/bugs and perform code reviews to ensure best practice, processes and coding standards are adhered to as per the test strategy
  • Work effectively within Agile/Scrum SDLC and participate fully in sprint ceremonies whilst continuously reviewing standards and processes to advance the Automation Test Strategy
  • Communicate with product owners and developers to ensure any defects found are catalogued and dealt with, in accordance with best practices
  • Deliver projects on time and within the defined processes and standards required
  • Apply testing techniques, patterns, tools, and technologies to deliver functionality in line with business goals
  • Identify training needs and using internal and external resource, proactively develop understanding, knowledge and skills relating to your role
  • Perform other related duties

Key Competencies

  • Experience of testing complex technical projects through to completion, resulting in delivery of robust and high-quality applications
  • Strong experience of developing and maintaining robust test frameworks using Cypress, JavaScript, Python and API for both new and existing products
  • Resilient attitude in pushing the test perspective within a team and ability to raise issues within the team and beyond to drive change through persuasion and consensus
  • In-depth knowledge across a range of testing methodologies
  • Self-motivated, reliable and determined team player
  • Flexible and able to adapt to new processes and requirements in a dynamic environment
  • Able to plan and manage own workload, delivering results within agreed deadlines
  • Strong, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people as and when required
  • Ability to test backend services and the integrations between them

Desirable Technologies/Experience

It would be beneficial for the desired candidate to have experience of testing complex IT projects through to completion, resulting in delivery of robust and high-quality applications using best practices. Strong capabilities and proven experience of building and maintain automation testing frameworks including some of the following technologies:

  • Selenium
  • Experience with BDD (Gherkin, Behave)
  • Postman
  • Experience of test management tool Xray
  • Experience of build pipelines using common CI/CD tools (e.g. GIT and GitLab)
  • Experience of cross browser/device testing through tools such as Browserstack
  • Experience in using tracking tools such as Jira
