Rhys … on being part of the Admiral family

Rhys … on being part of the Admiral family

Introducing the fifth blog of our new series, I Belong; giving you a peak into Admiral, meeting our fascinating and inspiring colleagues from around the Group and giving insight into our friendly, diverse and inclusive workplace culture. This International Men’s Day, we’re celebrating all the brilliant men who work for us, meet Rhys…

Hi, I’m Rhys and I have been with Admiral since 1997 – nearly 50% of my life!

It was by chance that I joined Admiral; I was looking for a career change and a friend recommended I look at this newish company that was making a name for itself. I didn’t know much about car insurance, and as it was a fairly new company, it seemed like a gamble for me to take.

From the interview onwards, Admiral came across as a really great place to work – very friendly and encouraging. When I got the job, I was only planning on staying 6 months to get some experience on my CV, but here I am, 24 years later!

An inclusive and supportive culture, fantastic career opportunities and care for the local communities…

You hear it time and time again, but Admiral really does have a great culture, which has made my decision to stay, an easy one. We often talk of everyone being part of the Admiral family and that’s how it truly feels – looking out for and helping each other, in and outside of work.

The inclusiveness and support from the company, my managers and the various teams I have been part of over the years has been phenomenal – they’ve all helped develop my understanding of my role(s), the wider business and my career, and everyone wants you to succeed.

There are some really great career opportunities within Admiral. The business is so vast, I have grabbed many opportunities to move around in different roles and departments and have even worked in one of our offices abroad – a fantastic experience.

Admiral also drives so much positive change within local communities (for example, sponsoring the Pride Cymru events, the Give a Day colleague benefit, the Admiral Community Fund, etc) so I am extremely proud to say I work here.

What would you say to those wishing to join the Admiral family?

Everyday can bring a new challenge that you may not have expected, you need to be flexible and remember that we’re here to help each other – nobody wants anyone to fail, we’re a big team at the end of the day, and so being supportive to your fellow colleagues is paramount.
